America's Future Update on China

Update on China's Snatching up Farmland Worldwide

Communist China has been buying up farmland all over the world in an apparent attempt to get ownership of as much precious soil and water as possible. This activity is called "land grabbing". It involves a great deal of land, according to experts who keep track of this. Land grabbing has been accelerating ever since the big jump in grain prices in 2007. Quite a lot of land is involved in this land grabbing. Investors are seeking land that has plenty of fresh water. Food prices are rising and freshwater supplies are dwindling. A big study published in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences in January reported that between 0.7% and 1.75% of the world.s agricultural land is being transferred to foreign investors from local landholders. That sounds like a small percentage, but it is an area bigger than France and Germany combined. After the title to the land is transferred, large commercial farms move in and grow their own crops, sometimes food and sometimes biofuels.  Washington Post, 1-26-13

Update on China Turning Out To Be the Winner in Afghanistan

Did you think that America won the war in Afghanistan? There's an old adage that "to the victor belongs the spoils," but it looks like Communist China is taking home the spoils. China could prove to be ultimate winner in Afghanistan, even though it shed no blood and didn.t give much aid. Communist China signed a strategic partnership last summer with Afghanistan, and in September, top Chinese government figures traveled to that country and announced that China would train 300 Afghan police officers. China is eyeing Afghanistan's estimated $1 trillion worth of unexploited minerals. Chinese companies have acquired rights to extract vast quantities of copper and coal. China made a deal for oil exploration concessions, and China is looking at extensive deposits of lithium, which can be used in batteries and nuclear components. China is the only country that has the ready cash to foot the level of investment needed to extract the minerals from Afghanistan. Central Asian experts say that superpowers have historically been involved in Afghanistan because it is an Asian crossroads, and China is no exception.   USA Today, 1-26-13

Update on How Obama Lets China Buy U.S. Energy

The Obama administration is quietly allowing Communist China to acquire major ownership interests in oil and natural gas resources all over the U.S. The Obama administration has been running $1-trillion-plus annual federal deficits, which are likely to continue, and the Administration sees these sales as a way to keep China economically interested in continuing to lend to the U.S. This is a reversal of George W. Bush's policy. Beijing has been developing a proposal to buy U.S. real estate as "development zones" on which to establish Chinese-owned businesses and bring in Chinese to work there. These purchases started in 2009 when the Chinese government energy company, CNOOC, bought a multi-million dollar stake in 600,000 acres of South Texas oil and gas fields. The Wall Street Journal compiled a state-by-state list of $17 billion in oil and natural gas equity interests bought by CNOOC and another Chinese company called Sinopec since 2010. This involves interests in Colorado, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.   WND, 1-22-165
