Update on China's Growing Military PowerThe Chinese are spending big money to build their growing military arsenal. While Obama has cut hundreds of billions of dollars from our military budget, Communist China is building dramatic new strategic military capabilities in every field of modern warfare, including new niche weapons systems designed to attack us in space and in the "cyber domain." We face a new power relationship: a weakening American military versus a rising Communist Chinese power, and that has "dire implications for global peace and stability." When the Soviet Union was threatening the world with its awesome giant missile force, the Kremlin’s goal was straightforward: "We will bury you." Communist China’s immediate goal is more limited but is just as determined; the goal is to get the U.S. out of Asia and force all Asian states to bow to Beijing’s wishes. Admiral Samuel Locklear declared that "Our historic dominance is diminishing. Let me say it again. Our historic dominance is diminishing." Our relationship with China is dangerous to U.S. interests because of our tolerance of the dishonest slogan mislabeled freetrade. There is nothing free about it; it’s terribly costly to Americans because the Chinese cheat us coming and going, steal our patents and copyrights, and use their illgotten gains to build up their military to eventually chase us out of Asia. We need a new leader like Ronald Reagan with determination not to let the Communists rule the world. Reagan’s Peace Through Strength maxim is still the best rule. Not only America but the whole world is safer when the United States has military superiority. Update on China's Anti-U.S. Cyber-EspionageThe U.S. Justice Dept. has indicted five members of the Chinese military on charges of hacking into computers and stealing valuable trade secrets from leading steel, nuclear, and solar power firms. The indictment is intended to address what senior intelligence officials call one of the top threats to national and economic security, with an estimated annual cost to the U.S. economy that could be $100 billion. The indictment charges that the five hackers, with names such as Ugly Gorilla and KandyGoo, committed computer fraud damaging a computer, aggravated identity theft, and economic espionage. Washington Post, 5-19-14 Update on China Stealing U.S. CornSix Chinese have have been charged with conspiring to steal U.S. trade secrets about bio-engineered corn seed from American seed companies. The plan was to send the corn to their own company in China. The 21-page indictment was filed in Des Moines, IA. According to documents filed in federal court, the Chinese drove through rural areas of Iowa, Illinois and Indiana and dug up freshly planted seeds or collected samples of grown corn to obtain specimens of the valuable engineered seed stock. These seeds represent years of work by American companies and millions of dollars in research and development. One company estimated that the loss of one of these lines of seed would wipe out 5 to 8 years of research and cost the company $30 to $40 million. The Chinese targeted Monsanto, LG Seeds, and Pioneer Hi-Bred (affiliated with DuPont). The Chinese were so thorough about their theft that they bought a 40-acre farm in Monee, IL for $600,000 to use as a base of operations. Des Moines Register, 12-19-13 |
